Time for Me!

Things have been hectic in our house the past month: water damage after coming home from vacation, me gearing up to teach three classes, our daughter starting mother’s morning out and one of my best friends getting hitched! I know we all have something that keeps us busy; seems like things will never settle down into a nice hum-drum routine. But that’s the excitement of life, right?
Even though my dear daughter (DD) has started mother’s morning out, I have not had time to have that “me time”. Today, I decided that everything could wait. I dropped DD off at ‘school’ (as we call it) and put on my running shoes. It rained earlier this morning, so the smell of wet grass was in the air and I could hear the birdies chirping good morning! I just about got choked up. Seriously??? I am way too soft these days!
I realized I had no responsibilities, absolutely none. Sure I needed to call the contractor, pay bills and prepare lectures, but I put all that aside. I almost felt selfish, but then took a deep breath and relished in my aloneness. Everything was right with the world. I heard every cricket chirp and every cicada buzzing. I felt the beads of sweat drip down my forehead. I sweated out my stress and can now continue on with my day. I am a happier person, a more energetic mom, a sweeter wife, a better me for taking this time!
Make time to do a little something for yourself and everyone will reap the benefits! If you can’t get outside and do something, try one of these meditation slide shows from Discovery Health. The slide show would not go full screen for me, so I just moved my window to cover up the annoying advertisement on the right. Or, just close your eyes and listen to the music for a minute. Don’t forget every little bit helps!
