Safe Prescription Take Back

Drop off your unused or expired medications for safe disposal

This Saturday, February 19, Madison county residents have the opportunity to drop off unused or expired medications for safe disposal.  There are three convenient locations including:  Jaycees Building on Airport Rd, Monrovia Recreation Center off Jeff Rd, and Madison Police Department on Hughes Rd.  The drop-off will take place from 9am to 12pm.

I can think of several easy reasons why to safely dispose of unused medications!

  1. More environmentally friendly than throwing them in the trash.
  2. Definitely better than flushing them down the toilet into our water supply.
  3. Safer to get rid of them than save them!  Teen prescription drug abuse is a real problem.

So, swing by one of the locations Saturday and confidentially drop off any medications.  Check out this article for more information.

Your TV is going green

NBC is in the midst of their annual Green Week.

Green Week, NBC’s annual ode to the environment is underway after kicking off November 14th and continuing through the 21st.   Look for green-themed segments on the news, in primetime, and even PSA’s.

This year’s Green Week will showcase NBC News reports from every corner of the company’s portfolio. NBC Nightly News’ Environmental Correspondent Anne Thompson will host environmental segments throughout the week, while MSNBC‘s “Morning Joe” will showcase a special five-day series to educate America on dependence on foreign oil and alternative sources of energy. NBC’s “TODAY” will bring it home with a segment on green cleaning products and highlights on how to reduce home energy and water use, and NBC Local Media stations across the country will feature stories about green in their communities. Rounding out the week, NBC News’ Brian Williams will conduct an exclusive one-on-one interview on Friday November 19th with Prince Charles, who talks about his efforts to prevent global warming and why he wants to be “the defender of nature.”

This year NBC is debuting green PSA’s like the one below featuring one of my favorite funny moms, Amy Poehler .

You know me, I always applaud a green initiative and appreciate green conversation starters, however there those a little less than impressed with NBC’s efforts.  Click here to read Greg Pollowitz’s take on “NBC’s Green Week Weak” for the National Review.  In the meantime keep an eye out for ‘green tv’ all this week on NBC stations.
