Precycling Grocery Store
An upcoming grocery store in Austin, TX plans to promote precycling by having consumers bring their own packaging to the store! How does it work? Check out the diagram below and click here to watch the video. Sounds very innovative to me; too bad we don’t live closer!

Opening Day for Farmers’ Market in Madison, AL
It’s that time of year! The flowers are in bloom, the spring breeze is blowing and my mouth is watering for that fresh Alabama produce! I received the information below from the Madison City Farmers’ Market email list. If you haven’t been, come out this Saturday for some yummy local finds. We’ve tried produce, breads and cheese from this market and enjoyed all. You’ll see lots of friendly faces and little ones in wagons helping to shop! A fun morning for all.
Come join us this Saturday (April 16th) from 8 a.m. until Noon for the Opening Day of the 2011 season of the Madison City Farmers Market. A few things to look forward to this week are strawberries, radishes, arugula, carrots, beets, turnips, asparagus, salad mix, green onions, kale, endive, beef, pork, LOTS of eggs, artisan cheeses, wonderful baked goods, fresh flowers, bedding plants, vegetable plants and great local crafts.
As usual we are located next to Discovery Middle School on Hughes Road (see map below). We hope to see all of you there, and remember, as the signs say “Please wait ‘till 8”, this gives our vendors time to setup to serve you better. See y’all on Saturday!
If you go, tell ‘em LGB sent you! And, let us know what your favorite finds are for the week.

Prepare for your spring lawn and garden with these helpful classes
With the warmer weather recently, I’m salivating for the beautiful sights and smells of spring time gardens! Check out these classes to get your green thumb going this year!
Lawn Care 101: $25 for non-members and $20 for members. Sunday, February 27th from 2 to 330pm. Taught by Harvey Cotton, Vice-President and Chief Horticulturist at Huntsville Botanical Gardens. My husband went to this class last year and really enjoyed it! He came home with so much knowledge; it was awesome to see him so excited about lawn care.
Click here to read the class description.
Grow Your Own Backyard Farmers’ Market: $25 for non-members and $20 for members. Saturday, March 5th from 12:30 to 2pm. Taught by Nikie Sothers, the Garden’s Director of Horticulture. I went to a similar class last year and loved it! I was overloaded with information about veggie garden basics. This is a great class if you’ve been wanting to get started, but haven’t taken the plunge yet. Click here for class description.
Or, if you are looking for more than a class, call on FoodScapes, Inc. I’ve mentioned them before, I know, but I can’t say enough positive things about them. What nice people who are so very passionate about helping others to grow gardens. They offer everything from garden coaching to maintenance services. Read more about the owner by clicking here.
And P.S.- My little one and I went to the Botanical Gardens earlier this week for play and a picnic with friends; it was so beautiful! If you haven’t visited the children’s garden area, make a point to this spring!
